PuppyLinux: Tiny but Powerful

This is my favorite distro linux tiny but powerful: PuppyLinux. Today is on 8th on distrowatch.  You can do almost anything in PuppyLinux. Puppy Linux enables you to save money while doing more work, even allowing you to do magic by recovering data from destroyed PCs or by removing malware from Windows.

Restoring Firmware WRT54GL from TomatoRAF

For some reason, WRT54GL's TomatoRaf, I returned to the original firmware. Its web interface of new firmware have a little different from when its first look two years ago. 
Firmware upgrade (I said "downgrade"), is very easy, but be careful not to interrupt the router or do not "close the browser". You can see simplified step by step here:

Recover Deleted Files with PhotoRec

First always use Partition Magic under Windows XP, but now I used to manage hard drive using GParted (in PartedMagic or PuppyLinux - Thanks so much for Barry Kauler: "I have not found any other linux distro very mini, very useful, up to date , and directly barking, besides PuppyLinux ") to partition the new hard drive, resize partition that is narrow, and backup/copy partitions.

Hard Drive SATA Setting Jumperless


If you buy a new hard drive desktop (SATA-III, 6GB/s) or notebook/netbook SATA-II (3GB/s) (eg 320 GB) and has put it into computer, the default setting is SATA-I or SATA-II. You can change SATA setting to apropriate setting depending your computer spesifications,  with Feature-Tools (F-Tool) from Hitachi.

TP LINK TL WR841ND AP+ROUTER

This is access point + router TP-Link TL WR841ND . There is power ON/OFF button in back side. 1 WAN port, 4 LAN port. Web interface so simple. Default IP setting 192.168.1.1, with username and password: admin.

Here it is, wlan adapters that can be directly detected  by Ubuntu 10.04.

The first  in order for students to recognize other types of WLAN adapters we decided to buy TL-WN350GD three units.
Cheap less around $10/pcs. About durabilty: just wait ...

WLAN Adapter PCI DLink DWA 525 on Ubuntu 10.04

Last few months ago we purchased this adapter DLink DWA 525, 7 pieces with a higher price than TP Link, to test students' competence. We hope that with a higher price, it can be high quality and easily to be installed but unfortunately an adapter can not be directly detected properly by Ubuntu 10.04 (LTS). Finally it could be installed properly after visiting the ubuntu forums.
