Why? The Price engine enhances the user's experience by providing product pictures and additional specifications - as well as the the latest price. It enables the calculation of important metrics like Performance vs. Price and Capacity vs. Price (for storage media) which are extremely useful when making comparisons. All this is done automatically rather than manually searching for pricing in stores.
Why do we measure it?
This is generally the primary metric that is used to choose between different devices. The most cost efficient design is generally considered to be "the best value" / "bang per buck", unless another characteristic (e.g. higher performance, lowest power) is the over-riding factor.
For storage devices (memory, hard disks, etc.) another important metric is Capacity vs. Price (aka Size Efficiency), i.e. how much capacity you get for your money. It is up to you to decide whether performance or capacity (or both) are important you and in what proportion.
SiSoftware Sandra (the System ANalyser, Diagnostic and Reporting Assistant) is an information & diagnostic utility. It should provide most of the information (including undocumented) you need to know about your hardware, software and other devices whether hardware or software.
It works along the lines of other Windows utilities, however it tries to go beyond them and show you more of what's really going on. Giving the user the ability to draw comparisons at both a high and low-level. You can get information about the CPU, chipset, video adapter, ports, printers, sound card, memory, network, Windows internals, AGP, PCI, PCI-X, PCIe (PCI Express), database, USB, USB2, 1394/Firewire, etc.
Native ports for all major operating systems are available:
- Windows XP, Vista, 7; Server 2003/R2, 2008 (x86)
- Windows XP, Vista, 7; Server 2003/R2, 2008/R2 (x64)
